About:

Practiced in Japan for centuries, the art of tea ceremony --also called Chado, or The Way of Tea-- is imbued with harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility. Join us at Shoseian Tea house for an unparalleled opportunity to experience a 40-minute tea presentation in a traditional roji garden setting. After the ceremony ends, we can take a relaxing walk through the Japanese Garden.

What To Know:

What to wear: visitors are encouraged to sit on tatami mats, with bench seating available for those unable to do so. We request participants wear socks or tights (no bare feet), and avoid wearing jeans, rings, and personal fragrances.

What to bring: yourself and a smile!

Where to meet: the Seattle Japanese Garden is located within the Washington Park Arboretum, at 1075 Lake Washington Blvd E. Seattle, Washington 98112. Parking is free but limited. The group will meet at the Parking lot and walk to the tea house together.

When to arrive: the tea ceremony starts promptly at noon, so please arrive 5-10 mins early.
